A "Healthy" Review

I came across this book as I re-entered the college classroom. I found it extremely easy to comprehend and very informative. There are also additional articles incorporated into the book itself, which makes for very interesting reading.
This book covers anything from athletes, bulimia, children, alcohol, drugs, nutrition, the heart, intimate relationships, and the holistic view of health. There is something in this book for everyone, at one time or another.
Being a non-traditional student as I re-entered college, I found I was much more interested in many of the courses I enrolled in. The health course I enrolled in not only made me more knowledgeable, but with this book in hand, I grew to know more about myself and what areas I needed to work on.
There is a wonderful section on alcoholism. There is also a great section on life stresses and illness.
I recommend this book for anyone looking to keep themselves in great physical condition.

This health book covers every major topic relating to health in a very easy to understand manner. It is very interesting and I felt that I learned a lot from it; even better, I will be able to actually remember what I read!

Excellent introductory book

I'm a first year cardiology fellow. This book is just perfect as an introduction to echo. It is beautifully written, concise, and yet comprehensive. Extremely helpful. It is also small so you can use it as a quick reference while going through your first few months of echo. I just bought Feigenbaum's, but I think such an encyclopedic work can be tackled with much more confidence after a simpler read such as this one.

I have read more or less all books about echocardiography but this one is is a masterpiece. He explains most of the hemodynamics in an easy way and simultaneously keep the level high. It also gives You invaluable ways to approach different pathologies and what to focuse on. You can easily miss stuff when You are reading a big textbook but this book is a diamond for You who really are dedicated to echocardiography!

Masterful Historical Novel

R. H. Benson's Come Rack! Come Rope! is a tightly plotted masterpiece. Benson weaves a fictional and dramatic story of divine and human love into the historic fabric of Elizabethan England in which Catholic priests are hunted and tortured for their faith and lay Catholics are hounded to deny their faith as Elizabeth, abetted by sadistic and greedy henchmen, fashions a populace loyal to herself and to her vision for England free of the ancient faith (and her sister, Mary Queen of Scots).

Benson's attention to historical accuracy, period detail, the crises of conscience during the Elizabethan reign, and the rhythms of life in the latter part of the sixteenth century draw the reader into the era and the story. Those who view Elizabethan England as the high point of civilized culture will be forced to think further.

Surprisingly modern for a book first published in 1912 'Come Rack Come Rope' is a story about the Catholic resistance in the time of Queen Elizabeth. Characters and plot are well developed and believable and the amount of preaching or theology is minimal. In essence this is a novel about people in a suppressed culture trying to survive under a totalitarian regime. While not always even handed in its treatment of the English crown it is far from being propaganda. I found it an enjoyable, at times inspirational and true to what I have studied of this historical period. An excellent read and highly recommended.

Beautifully Written

Rich narrative with engaging characters, both historical and fictional, made this book difficult to put down. Hard to believe this was written nearly a hundred years ago. I'll be recommending it to my friends and may well work it into a homily or two!

About the Author

Dr. Eric Morse is an assistant professor of entrepreneurship at the Ivey School of Business, where he serves as the Executive Director of The Institute for Entrepreneurship. His principle areas of expertise include entrepreneurial strategy, corporate entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial cognition. Dr. Morse’s research has appeared, or is forthcoming, in AMJ, ET&P, JBV and other top research journals. Previously, at the University of Victoria, he was co-designer of the UVic Entrepreneurship Program, and also taught management consulting and the capstone strategy class for the MBA Program. He was the architect of UVic's partnership in International Executive M.B.A. education (Taiwan) and President/Director of the International Centre for Venture Expertise. Dr. Morse serves, or has served on the board of directors for several entrepreneurial start-ups and actively consults with both private and government enterprises. Dr. Morse's past work experience includes stints with Andersen Consulting and the Los Alamos National Laboratory - in their technology transfer office.
